Are you satisfied with the look of your smile? Or are you like so many other adults who wish they had straight teeth but feel it's too late for orthodontics?
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a revolutionary treatment that has helped millions of adults worldwide to achieve the smile they've always dreamed of. The best part is that Invisalign® is nearly invisible, making it the perfect choice for those of us who are keen on maintaining a professional appearance during the transformation process. Invisalign® is also a great choice for teens and young adults who cringe at the thought of wearing metal braces at school.
How does the process work?
The Invisalign® treatment consists of wearing a series of aligners that gradually shift your teeth closer and closer to the desired position. The aligners are made of a thermoplastic material that is both transparent and comfortable. Best of all, Invisalign® aligners are removable, so you can pop them off before heading into that important business meeting you've got scheduled!
Before starting the process, your certified Invisalign® provider will create a treatment plan made specifically for you. This plan will determine how long your process will take from start to finish, and how often you will need to replace your aligners. Most treatments will take between 12 to 18 months with patients swapping their aligners approximately every 2 weeks, but for minor corrections the entire Invisalign® process can take as little as 4 months! That is assuming, of course, that you faithfully wear your aligners for the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day.
Are you a good candidate?
Contrary to what many patients believe, Invisalign® is able to fix a wide variety of alignment problems. These include:
Crowded teeth: When the teeth are bunched up to the point that they fight for space. This often results in teeth twisting or overlapping on each other, and crowded teeth often make it difficult to brush and floss properly.
Overbites/underbites: When the teeth don't meet correctly, either because the upper teeth cover the bottom teeth, or vice versa. While it's normal to have a slight overbite, Invisalign® can correct some of the more prominent cases.
Gap teeth: When there's extra space between the two or more of the teeth.
Open bites: When the upper and lower teeth don't touch, which can make it difficult to chew.
Do traditional braces still have their place?
While Invisalign® (and other clear aligners) has revolutionized the dental world, traditional metal braces are still the preferred choice for certain patients. First, Invisalign® requires the dedication and the discipline to wear the aligners faithfully. That can be a problem for younger patients who are less attentive. Second, braces are more easily adjustable, which is often important when dealing with younger patients whose mouths are constantly evolving. Lastly, metal braces are often more suitable for treating complex cases. Because the Invisalign® aligners are made of plastic, they aren't as flexible or bendable as the wires that are used with braces.
And how does the cost of Invisalign® compare?
The biggest misconception among patients is that Invisalign® is more expensive than traditional braces. That's not the case. At our office, for example, Invisalign® ranges from $1,400 (for simple, shorter cases using Invisalign Express®) up to $5,600 (for the full-length treatment).
